Tell us how you got into the industry?
A buddy of mine got trained in driving the Zamboni at a local rink and I figure if he could do it, so could I!

25+

Fast
Nobody’s perfect in this industry. Tell us your worst experience at a rink so far?
Trying to save some money, I decided to chip out the concrete floor where we had a horseshoe connection that was leaking glycol and making its way to the surface of the floor. Well, I chipped alittle too hard and went thru the pipe…the system wasn’t running but I sure was, I appreciated Gary Bye picking up on the first ring!
What are the first three things you do when you get to the rink each day?
  1. Check notes from drivers
  2. Check the locker room walls for messages of the day
  3. Compressor room walk thru
How do you feel ongoing professional development is helping you and your career?
On going professional development has led to a deeper understanding of tips, tricks and procedures on how to operate the arena and its programs
How would you explain to the average hockey parent how the ice resurfacer works to resurface the ice?
We cut, we extract we finish. All in 15 minutes!
Career highlight or accomplishment you are most proud of?
Was involved in ½ cent sales tax at Sports Arena East that really gave the building a facelift with bleachers etc. Also a James Padgett award winner.
Advice for making it in the sports industry or for someone wanting to be a Zamboni driver?
Don’t be afraid to come in at the ground level to build skills

ISI: Cert. Of Arena Operations, Refrigeration theories and principles, Miama mgmt. course. STAR: safe ice resurfacer operations, operations and risk mgmt., human resource mgmt., ice making painting and tech.
What is the best tip you have learned from any of the classes offered through MIAMA?
Document, document, document
