Under the supervision of the Cambridge Isanti Arena Corporation (501(c)3 organization) board of directors, this position will coordinate and oversee the year-round operations of the facility with a solid operational and maintenance program, while complying with facility policies and procedures. All mechanical components that makes the facility function and operate, including equipment, must be in top working order and be well-maintained.

Examples of Duties

Operational Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the facility is operating properly and is well maintained, including but not limited to the installation and maintenance of ice, boards, and glass.
  • Ensuring that maintenance standards are adhered to by staff and contractors.
  • Assisting with health and safety initiatives as required, such as inspections, policy development, etc. to ensure the proper and safe operation of the facility is in alignment with safety standards and regulations.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of facility systems, including but not limited to HVAC, geothermal ice plant, boilers, etc. including the conduction and recording of daily, weekly, and periodic inspections of all equipment and operating systems.
  • Perform a variety of ice and equipment maintenance duties including taking ice depth measurements, daily edging of the ice, daily shaving or building of ice, taking and logging various mechanical readings, changing ice resurfacer blades, greasing ice resurfacer, performing ice resurfacer maintenance, washing of ice resurfacer, minor repairs to ice resurfacer or other related equipment, dasher board/glass repair and maintenance, and documentation of all maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain and schedule activities, ice time and rentals, and concessions.
  • Perform general lawn care and grounds maintenance to include mowing, weed whipping, mulching, shoveling, salting, and repairing and maintaining grounds equipment.
  • Perform a variety of custodial work including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, window washing, dusting, trash collection, waste disposal, walkway maintenance including snow and ice control, floor scrubbing and general building cleaning and upkeep, including locker rooms and restrooms.
  • Build working relationships with the community to provide new recreational programs.
  • Making recommendations for operating and capital budgets, and monitoring revenues and expenditures - Completing maintenance and capital projects within approved budgetary limits and following applicable policies.
  • Responsible for the purchasing, maintenance, and inventory control of supplies and equipment for the ice arena, pro shop, and concession stand.

Performs other essential job responsibilities

Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

Nontraditional hours may be required, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to move material up to 50 pounds; ascend/descend and work on ladders; constantly traverse throughout entire facility during work shift.
  • Ability to operate standard software programs.
  • Ability to keep and maintain written records.
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to communicate well and confidently with the public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in ice arena operations.
  • Valid class D driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Ice arena certifications - CIT/CRA/CIRM (US Ice Rink Association) or working towards certification.
  • 3+ years of experience managing ice arenas or related facilities.
  • Working knowledge of geothermal refrigeration systems.
  • Experience operating a Zamboni 552 ice resurfacer.
