May 2014 MIAMA Newsletter Article by Jon Balvance
Good Morning MIAMA members –
This month we have our annual spring workshop at the Chaska Community Center on Tuesday, May 6th. This is always a first-rate event with great attendance by our MIAMA membership. It’s a great opportunity to learn some valuable information in regards to the R-22 Phase out, updates on rinkfinder.com & MIAMA.org, network with your fellow arena members and check out the latest items available at the Trade Show. I’d like to thank this year’s Spring Workshop co-chairs, Shayne Radcliff from Lakeville Arena’s and Jon Jackson of Becker Arena Products for their hard work in setting up this event.
With spring finally upon us, many facilities have their ice out and are utilizing the time for some much needed annual maintenance within the building and grounds. This is an excellent opportunity to step back and walk the facility as if it was your 1st time in the facility.
Take a walk around the outside of your building with a notebook and take some notes:
Is your front entrance clean and appealing for your patrons?
Does your parking lot need repairs, re-striping or parking lot lights need replacement?
Have you, your staff or contractor finished the spring ground cleanup?
When’s the last time the landscaping has been addressed?
If applicable, is the irrigation system up and running properly?
Then walk around the inside of your building:
Are the dasher-board screws all tight & board anchors tightened?
Do you need to replace any gaskets on your rink glass?
Are the safety pads near the player benches still in good shape?
When’s the last time you lubricated the doors around your ice sheet?
Are the benches still stable or in need of repair?
These are just a few of the things to take a look at when you have some downtime in the Spring/Fall.
